Bruce Smart, who runs the inter-school quiz competition, popped in last week to host a general knowledge quiz with Year Six. Thanks for a fun afternoon Bruce!

As part of science week, Year 6 did an investigation on flight. We discussed the forces acting on planes when they fly and conducted mini investigations to help us decide on the perfect paper aeroplane. We then had a competition to see which group's plane flew the furthest. Here are some of the competition flights - each group had 3 attempts to throw their plane and then we all calculated the average mean distance. Year Six spent a fantastic day as citizens of Kidzania, where they got to try out a variety of careers, earning Kidzos (the local currency) in the process and spending them as they wished. The children spent several hours independently navigating the city and choosing what they wanted to do from sixty real-life activities on offer including pilot, singer, banker, firefighter, radio DJ and policemen. Here are some of the things we got up to... On Monday, Nathan Timothy came into 6H from the songwriting charity and helped us compose our leavers' song. We loved having Nathan in our class and are very proud of the finished composition, which be available on this blog after the Leavers' assembly in July. Thanks Nathan!
http://www.nathantimothyfoundation.org/ Year Six have been using block printing techniques to produce totem pole artwork linked with the North America theme from this term. We firstly planned our designs in sketchbooks before transferring them to polystyrene tiles, which we used for the printing process.
Wow...what a day 6V have had! We were so lucky that Nathan Timothy from The Songwriting Charity came to work with us today to help us write a leavers' song. We all had an amazing day and can't wait to share the song with everybody (you'll have to wait until our Leavers' Assembly though!) A message from Nathan: The two songs created this week are truly magical and I’m honoured to have worked with such wonderful children. Thank you Nathan! After last week's excellent performance by the boys in the local area cricket tournament, it was the turn of the girls this week. Again, we visited Benfleet Cricket Club to play against four other schools. The girls represented the school superbly throughout, working brilliantly as a team and playing great cricket throughout. It was again, extremely close, with two teams winning three out of their four games and when the scores were added up, we discovered that we had won the tournament and therefore go through to the regional final in June. Well done girls! In PSHE, we have started to think about moving on from EFPS to our new secondary schools. We thought about the similarities and differences between primary and secondary school and had a really great discussion as a year group. Yesterday, Year Six were visited by a coach from Garrons Golf Club in Southend, who gave us a taster session focused on putting skills. Fore!
